The Be Free Campaign is a youth-led mental health charity dedicated to changing the way young people experience wellbeing. Founded by Dr Shantanu Kundu, we believe that prevention, early support, and education are the most powerful tools to tackle the growing mental health crisis.
We work directly with children, teenagers, and young adults, as well as the parents, teachers, and professionals who support them. Our programmes combine creativity, evidence-based practice, and lived experience to make mental health support accessible and relevant. From interactive resilience sessions to tailored one-to-one interventions, we give young people the confidence and strategies they need to manage challenges before they reach crisis point.
Our approach is rooted in community. We partner with schools, youth centres, and grassroots organisations to reach those most often excluded from traditional services, including racially minoritised and disadvantaged communities. By listening to young people and placing their voices at the centre, we ensure that everything we deliver is authentic, inclusive, and effective.
Beyond direct support, we campaign nationally for better mental health provision, pushing for policies that prioritise prevention and equity. We also create innovative resources, from wellbeing journals to children’s books, that spark conversations about emotions and make mental health part of everyday life.
Our vision is simple: a society where every young person feels free to be themselves, free to speak openly about their mental health, and free to access the support they need to thrive.
